Review: Playing Patience by Tabatha Vargo

Sometimes all you need is Patience.

Life’s been hard for Zeke. Being a punching bag for his alcoholic father has turned him into stone. Not even the dodgy trailer park he lives in can scare him. Fighting is his release and sex, drugs, and his guitar bring him peace, but deep down Zeke isn’t quite as hard as he makes himself out to be. When he meets Patience, she finds all his broken pieces and puts him back together, but she’s a ray of light in his shadowed life and the last thing he wants to do is bring her into his dark world. Playing careless is easy, playing the bad guy can be fun, but playing Patience is impossible, especially when she can see right through him.

Zeke isn’t the only one who’s broken, and for the first time, in a long time, Patience feels alive. Her black and white world gets a shot of color when she meets Zeke. He’s unlike anyone she’s ever met with his tattoos, piercings, and blunt honesty. She wants nothing more than to let go and ride the wild side with him, but some wounds never heal and the broken pieces of Patience aren’t so easy to find.

Review
I've had this on my TBR List forever and finally had the chance to read it and it was perfect timing. I had been in a book funk for a while suffering from a major book hangover and I needed something to pull me out of it and this was the perfect book. It's one of those grab a hold of your soul books that will forever leave an impression. At first I wasn't sure I was going to be able to read it, some things I just couldn't wrap my mind around, but I kept reading and I'm glad I did. My emotions ranged from sad to disgusted to hatred all while LOVING these characters.

Zeke is an absolute asshole but he will melt your heart and I loved him from the very beginning and nothing he did or didn't do changed it. He struggles with his own past and present. His only concern is himself and his music. All the women love and hate him at the same time, they want him but all he wants is one thing and he is sure to make that clear. Until he meets Patience and she turns his world upside down.

"She was the only good thing, a slice of sunlight in my eternal night, snowflakes in my hell, and I'd do whatever it took to protect her from me and my world"

My heart broke for Patience, I was angry for her. I wanted to jump in my kindle and defend her. On the outside her world looks perfect. Rich family, good grades, star soccer player, but nothing is as it seems. Her home is her personal hell and she is just trying to survive, until she meet Zeke and he gives her hope. Just being around him make her feel things she never thought possible. She will do anything to keep her secret and Zeke will do anything to keep her safe.

I loved this book so much, Tabitha wrote it in a way that makes you feel like you are really there. She brings real life issues to light and gives you a survivors story. Kudos to you my lady for writing about issues that are hard to see, read and learn about, I tip my hat to you.
