Misguided Heart by Amanda Bennett Blog Tour and Giveaway

Misguided Heart by Amanda Bennett
Release Date: February 22, 2013
Cover Designed by Wicked By Design (Robin Harper)

Synopsis:
What if with one choice you could change your whole life in a matter of seconds?

Aston Boyd has always put everything into her work. She has never needed anyone in her life and has survived on her own since she was 18, never looking back. When she gets her dream promotion and becomes the new editor at one of the biggest publishing houses in Arizona, she thinks she has finally figured it all out.

But, when Aston receives an invitation to her first love's wedding, she starts to re-evaluate just how much she has given up for her career.

With a mission in mind to try and win back the one she let go, she never took in to consideration that what she might need, or even want, could be right in front of her.

Will she be willing to put her heart out there to get back the life she could have had, or will she try for something new?

Sloan Holden is the quintessential bad boy trying to cover all that up with his good boy act. He has spent the last 9 years trying to prove to his over bearing father that he can change his ways, and one day run his publishing house. The only thing standing in his way is the slew of fast women and his wild lifestyle, which he just can't seem to give up. He doesn't do relationships and always vowed to stay single forever.

A lot can change when the one person you thought you would never fall for worms their way into your heart, but will the feelings be returned?

Teaser:
I couldn't help but be a voyeur to the little act being played out in front of me. I wanted to see how she would react to him. I needed more than anything to know if she spent her time thinking about me as much as I thought about her. As a bright smile hit her face, my heart literally plummeted to my toes. My eyes scanned the crowd for her so-called friends, but didn't see any of them on the dance floor. His hands wrapped tightly around her hips and my fingers tightened into fists.

I tried with all of my might, to look away but it wasn't happening. She was no longer facing me; her face was now merely inches in front of his. I prepared myself for the worst and downed the shot of Patron in front of me. The guy, whose name I think was Auggie, was quite a bit bigger than me. Not that I couldn't hold my own, I have been boxing since I was 10, but he was still pretty big in comparison. A little bit of liquid courage was called for when I hadn't fought for a woman in, well, forever it would seem.

Review:
The cover on this book is HOT! I was so excited to read it because of that, lol. Not to mention I have heard a lot of good things about Amanda Bennett's work. Misguided heart is steamy and sexy.

Aston is the one of the only ones in her friends that isn't married, settled down or with kids yet. She chose her career over any kind of love life and is happy where it got her. In my opinion, Aston needs to get laid (enter Sloan....lol)

Sloan's father owns the company that Aston works for, hence he is kind of her boss just like his father. He can;t stop looking at her once he finally notices her. He is used to getting what he wants, women don't tell him no....well that is woman that aren't Aston. At first she isnt sure what to think of Sloan, but then she finds herself spending more time with him and then invites him to attend a wedding with her, her ex-finaces wedding, hehehehe.

Aston and Sloan start to build a very hot relationship, but then it is snatched away. It seems they both kind of have commitment issues and trust issues but on different levels. They have to learn how to find a balance to make it.

I really enjoyed the overall story. I feel like I could have connected with the characters more, but other than that I dont have anything negative to say. If you are looking for a quick but steamy read, this is the book for you.

Broken Aro (The Broken One) by Jen Wylie

I’m not a big fan of books that involve the Fey. I will read them, but I have found that they are not my favorite. Broken Aro may have changed my mind. It not only has Fey, but many other creatures. I’m talking dragons, were, elves, fey…the whole 9 yards! I loved this book! I mean, really, really loved it! When I finished I was like, well….what do I do now? I honestly did not expect to have this reaction. Based on the synopsis, I knew it would be good, but I didn’t think it would have as much of an impact as it did. I cannot wait for the next book to be released!

This book was an adventure. Every page was like a race to get to the next page.

Synopsis:
Open your eyes to darkness. What do you see? Does the darkness frighten you? Now imagine the darkness being the cargo hold of a slave ship. Your city has fallen. Your family is most likely dead. You don't know anyone around you, and some of them aren't even human. Giving up would be so easy to do, but not for Arowyn Mason. Not after being raised in a military family with seven brothers. Every great story should begin with a plan. Aro's was to escape and to survive.

Escape comes, but at a price. As they reach the shore, Aro and the other survivors learn that freedom doesn't mean safety. The slavers want their property back and will do anything to get it. The party uses every ounce of their brute strength, a hearty helping of cunning, and even ancient magics to keep themselves alive. Sickness, danger, and even love surprise them at every turn. Dealing with danger becomes their way of life, but none of them ever considered that nothing can be quite as dangerous as a prophecy. Running turns into another race altogether as her world falls to pieces again and again.

Explaining exactly what the book is about will not do it justice. I recommend jumping in blind and just go along for the adventure. Each character is full of life and they all have different personalities that work wonders together. Overall this is just a wonderful, epic adventure with room open for romance to come into play as the story grows. I cannot wait to see what else the characters will have to face, and where the prophecy that is Aro will take them.

A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Synopsis
On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.
A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

Review
I am a vampire geek! I swear, I love all kinds of vampires...sweet vampires, mean vampires, goth vampires, hot vampires....you get the picture. A Shade of Vampire just added to that list. I loved this book! I was so engaged in the story. I read all afternoon, not wanting to stop. I can't find a release day for book 2 anywhere and I need it now!!!

I love vampire love stories, but I also like vampire stories that are kind of a love story but not really. That's what this book was to me. I can see it developing into a major love story, but for book 1, there wasn't enormous amount of romance, just a little. I liked that. It allowed me to get to know the characters and what this vampire tale (because you know all vampire books are different, lol) is like and bond with the book. If I don't bond, it's over for me, so bonding with a book and the characters is a must!

Sofia's main goal in life is to survive without going insane like her mother. He next goal is to keep the relationship she has with her best friend normal....but that is impossible when she has developed feelings for him when he clearly doesn't return the feelings.

One of her problems is solved when she is kidnapped and taken to The Shade. She no longer has to worry about her feelings for Ben. Now she has to worry about going crazy like her mother. Has this really happened? Has she been kidnapped? Or is the crazy finally setting in for good?

Lucky for us, this isn't her crazy, lol. She really has been kidnapped by vampires and taken to The Shade. We would have had a very short story had she only gone crazy.

So, Sofia wakes in The Shade to find out that she is to be a slave to the prince, Derek. His brother Lucas brought her to The Shade. After meeting the prince, Sofia has no choice but to get to know him. She finds herself actually liking him, he isn't as bad as the rest of the vampires seem to be. Derek is also drawn to her for more reasons than her blood:

She showed me a humanity I longed to return to.

Sofia is forced to stay against her will, all she knows is there must be a way out.

Where there's a way in, there simply must be a way out.

After her failed attempt to escape she truly learns that Derek is not as bad as he should be. She feels safe with him.

Ultimately, it was Derek who made life at The Shade worth living.

Then she starts to develop more feelings for him. Probably more than she should....but she can't help it! He is just so safe, and so sweet and everyone else (including the horrid Lucas) is just so horrible!

"From the moment I got here, all I've wanted to do was escape and go back home, but Derek..." she leant toward me and placed a gentle kiss over my cheek "...you've begun to feel like home."

Ah! I just loved this story. Everything about it was enticing to me. It is YA, the heroine is only 17, but it is still so good! With the situation the characters are put in at the end, I can only imagine where book 2 will go. I just can't wait!

Excerpt
I’d been meandering along the shore for about an hour when I suddenly sensed that I wasn’t alone. Someone was approaching me from behind. My heart leapt. I was so sure it was Ben, that when a stranger showed up beside me, I couldn’t hide my disappointment.
He must have noticed, because a smirk formed on his lips. “Were you expecting someone else, love?”
I eyed him suspiciously, remembering how many times my father had told me not to talk to strangers. I looked him over, taking in his appearance. My eyes widened. I couldn’t find words to describe how fine a man he was. He was almost beautiful. The first thing I took notice of was how his blue eyes were about three shades brighter than any I’d ever seen before. It was such a stark contrast to his pale – almost white – skin and dark hair. Standing beside me, he was easily more than half a foot taller. His height, broad shoulders and lean build reminded me of Ben, but he had a presence that was far more imposing than my best friend’s.
My gaze settled on his face.
I realized that he was inspecting me just as closely as I was him. His eyes on me suddenly made me feel uncomfortably vulnerable. I gave my father’s advice a second thought, but quickly canceled out all notions of heeding to his counsel when I reminded myself that he stopped caring a long time ago.
I straightened to my full height and mustered all the courage I had to keep myself from running away from this stranger.
Big mistake.
The confident smirk didn’t leave his face for even a moment.
“Like what you see?”
“A bit full of yourself, aren’t you?” I scoffed, annoyed by his audacity.
He stepped forward, closer to me, and leaned his head toward mine.
“Don’t I have the right to be?”
He knew he looked good and wasn’t about to act like he didn’t.
“Whatever,” was my oh-so-brilliant comeback.
My shoulders sagged with defeat as I took a step back, unsettled by how close he was now. I rolled my eyes and did a one-eighty, not quite in the mood to play whatever game this stranger was proposing.
I would soon realize that I was about to play his game whether I liked it or not.
He grabbed my arm and turned my body to face him. This motion alone made every single internal alarm I had within me go off in a frenzy.
This man was danger and I knew it. I tried to wriggle away from his touch, but I was no match for his strength.
“Tell me your name,” he commanded.
I was about to refuse, but was horrified to find myself blurting out my name in response.
“Sofia Claremont.”
As soon as I revealed my name, his eyes lit up with a kind of sinister approval. Then he reached for my face and traced his thumb over my jaw line.
“Hello, Sofia Claremont. You’re one stupid girl for taking a walk alone at this time of night. You never know what kind of evil a pretty little thing like you could happen to come by.”
I found myself wondering exactly what kind of evil he was. But I was suddenly overcome by the sensations that were surrounding me. My senses took in everything at once. I heard the waves, felt the sand, smelled the ocean salt, tasted the flavor of cherry and saw the stranger’s manic appearance as he stuck a needle to my neck. The effect was instant. I was barely able to gasp, much less scream. I went from sensing everything to sensing absolutely nothing.
My last conscious thought was that I may never see Ben again.

Waiting on Wednesday: Unbeautifully (Undeniable #2) by Madeline Sheehan

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog event hosted by Breaking the Spine featuring anxiously awaited upcoming releases.
The wait is killing us!!!! We are ready for more hardcore MC NOW!!! All we know is it will be sometime this year and that sucks!! We need a time frame, maybe that will at least ease the pain in our minds, lol.

Blurb:
*Warning: This book contains several aspects of the uglier side of life; it is not for everyone.*

The story of Ripper and Danny.

The first time I fell in love it was with a pair of blue eyes and a wide dimpled grin.

“Your old man loves ya, Danny girl,” He whispered. “You never ever forget that, yeah?”

I never did. And I never thought I could ever love any man as much as I loved my father. But as we grow, we change, we begin to make our own decisions and thus become independent and self sufficient and start turning away from our parents and turning to others. We form friendships, strong bonds and ties and begin experiencing life outside of the bubble we grew up inside of.

And we fall in love…a second time.

The second time I fell in love it was with a badly scarred face, the stuff of nightmares; the sort of disfigurement that mothers steer their children away from. Ugly, jagged slashes marred the skin from the top of his skull, down over his right eye, an eye that had been dug out of his face with a serrated blade. The scars continued across his cheek, over his lips and down his neck, ending at the top of his shoulder. His chest was a hundred times worse; scar tissue as far as the eye could see.

“Baby,” He said gruffly, “Man like me got no business with a girl like you. You’re nothin’ but fuckin’ beauty and I’m a whole lot of fuckin’ ugly who’s already halfway to hell.”

But he was wrong.
Everything has beauty. Even the ugly. Especially the ugly.
Because without ugly there would be no beauty.
Because without beauty we would not survive our pain, our sorrow, and our suffering.
And in the world I lived in, the world he lived in, a secret world within the world, a world of of constant crime and cruel, cold, death, there was almost nothing but suffering.

“You may not be beautiful the way you were before,” I whispered, cupping his ruined cheek. “But you’re still beautiful. To me.”

Teaser:
They made it maybe a mile down the dark, deserted highway when Danny’s hands suddenly fisted in his tee shirt, her body pressed in closer to his and her thighs squeezed reflexively around his hips. His heart started pounding.
Wave after wave of heat began to roll through him until he could barely see straight.
Knowing it was a bad idea, knowing exactly what was going to happen, he pulled off the highway and onto a patch of grass.
Cutting the engine, he shoved his kickstand down.
Neither of them spoke.
Or moved.
They just breathed.
Hers, quick and short.
His, loud and heavy.
Just breathing.
Then her fingers began to creep down his abdomen, to the edge of his tee shirt where she paused, fingering the threadbare material. He stopped breathing altogether and just gripped his handlebars, praying for strength.
“Ripper,” She whispered.
Aw, Jesus, that sweet, sweet voice…
....and the angelic face and the FUCKING body that owned that voice...
He was so fucked.
"Yeah baby?" He said gruffly.
Her hands slipped under his shirt and her nails dug into the skin on his stomach
"Please..." She breathed.

Review:

So I was in desperate need of an Alpha male fix, and we all know that no one can write an alpha male like Kristen Ashley. RAID definitely hit the spot!! Raiden Miller kicks ass and doesn't worry about taking names, he is just BADASS! He knows what he wants and goes for it, and nothing is going to get in his way or stop him.

Broken by Christa Cervone

Synopsis:
According to Webster’s Dictionary the definition of the word Broken is violently separated into parts. SHATTERED.

Yup, that pretty much sums me up. How do I handle things? I find my answers at the bottom of a bottle of Tequila and sleep with random men.

How did I get this way? Well, four years ago I made a decision that cost me the love of my life. I can't undo what I did to drive Garrett out of my life. I haven't seen or heard from him in four long years. But he still haunts me in my dreams or should I call them nightmares at this point? No matter how much booze I drink and how many men I sleep with, nothing fills the void. I feel like I am existing but I’m not really living.

I’m trying to get my life back on track. Well that was until. . . . Garrett walked back into my life. His reappearance threw me into another tailspin.
How do I put the pieces of our broken hearts back together? All before he walks out of my life again... this time for good. Or am I simply destined to just be Broken?

Favorite Quotes:

Tequila was always my drink of choice as it was strong and got me drunk quickly. I had been using it as a Band-Aid to mend my broken heart for years.

"Garrett, please...I want you...I need you. My body longs for you." I said breathlessly...

Review:

Check out that cover, is it SEXY or WHAT?!?! We had the honor of receiving an ARC copy of Broken from the FABOLOUS Christa Cervone. So, Christa, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Have you ever read a book that you 1. Read straight through without stopping, 2. Dreamed about the book that night, 3.Thought about that book for days? Well, that's what this book did to me. I was so wrapped up in this story that it stayed on my mind so much, I dreamed about it. Leila is self destructive, she will do anything to take away the pain, to not be broken. She just moves along in life making one bad decision after the other and that is why I love her. She is flawed, she struggles with the decisions she made in the past. It's real and raw and makes her more relatable. I love the chemistry between her and Garrett (he is based loosely on Alex Minsky's story, NOT AT ALL his biography, just bits and pieces). Speaking of Garrett, the man drips sex appeal and it's not hard to picture him as Mr. Minsky ;). I love the way they relate to each other, I love that the story bounces back and forth between the here and now and the past, giving us the history between them just at the right moments. Christa, darlin you get 5 out of 5 stars for this one and I can't wait for anything else you write.

Excerpt

His mouth went dry. Her pale skin glowed against all the black.

She rolled up the shirt and put it in her handbag. "What are you waiting for?"

He cleared his throat and pushed the button.

The elevator doors closed. If she wouldn't allow him to know where they were going, he would make headway in another direction. He stepped back and slid his arm around her waist.

She settled against him.

Her position gave him the perfect opportunity to take in the top of her breasts.
They wanted to overflow out the lingerie disguised as a dress. The corset contoured to her curves, accentuating what was already magnificent. He dared to snake his hand up.

"You look troubled." She moved her hair out of her face.

"You look beautiful."

"Are you sure it's not too much?" A bit of pink stained her pale cheeks.

He let his gaze travel from her face to her neck decorated with a black lace choker, and back to her cleavage. He was never going to make through tonight without having her.

"It's not too much." He took a chance and moved his hand to the edge of her breast. Even with the restrictive garment, her flesh changed, soft, welcoming, enticing.

She arched her back toward him. "So, you like what you see?"

Less than ten minutes ago this woman wouldn't kiss him. He wanted to grab her, take her hand and press it to himself and show her exactly how much he liked what he saw.

"I can think of nothing better."

"Are you ready for some surprises?" She reached up to fix his collar.

His life had turned into nothing but twists and turns ever since she asked her first interview question.

REVIEW:
Holy sh*t, Holy Freaking Sh*t!! Teresa Mummert, I think I love you and your big beautiful brain! I finished this book last night and I still can't catch my breath. This book is just.... WOW....there are seriously no words to express what this book did to me and the way it made me feel. At times I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe and then there were moments I cried and wanted to scream and yell. I felt such a deep connection with these characters, it was like I went through every emotion with them.

This is a book about love and devotion, support and strength and understanding. About finding yourself and what you want out of life and trusting others. It touched my heart like no other book has before. I now have a new book boyfriend ladies and his name is Shane Tudor...SWOON!!! He is such a smart ass and a hard ass but can be sweet when he needs to be. (He reminds me of my husband, the whole time I was reading I kept telling my husband, "I feel like I'm reading about you" lol). Teresa Mummert is a freaking genus!!

And now I leave you with a little TEASER.... My favorite Ryan Owens lines, because he is freaking AWESOME.....
"what fobbit? Not used to seeing a real life soldier? You want an autograph from a real American hero?" Owens joked as he wiped the food from his mouth.
"You can write it right here" The soldier grabbed his crotch as his buddies laughed.
"I guess he only wants my initials" Owen replied looking at me. I just hung my head and laughed.

I hear every sound, every laugh, every cry. People move around me frantically, but I can’t take my eyes off the sliding glass doors. There’s a violent storm outside and rain is hammering down against the concrete, dirt, and dry leaves. Sirens flash as ambulances roll up under the port.

My stomach is empty, my heart is hurting, and I can’t move.

“Callie,” Seth says. “Callie, look at me.”

I blink my gaze off the door and stare into his brown eyes filled with worry.

He takes my hand in his, his skin warm and comforting. “He’s going to be okay.”

I stare at him, trying not to cry, because I know I’m stronger than that. “Okay.”

He lets out a slow sigh and pats my hand. “You know what, I’m going to go see if he can have visitors yet.” He gets up from the chair and walks across the packed waiting room to the receptionist desk.

He’ll be alright.

He has to be.

Deep down, I know that’s not true. His wounds and breaks may heal on the outside and cover with scars. On the inside the healing will take longer and I wonder what Kayden will be like when I see him again—who he’ll be.
